SCNM Student Zach Moran Qualifies for CrossFit Regionals

Congratulations to Zach Moran on reaching the CrossFit regionals! This is a great achievement as only a small fraction of the athletes that attempt to qualify actually make it.

The CrossFit Games are a three stage journey to find the fittest people on the planet.  In the first stage, hundreds of thousands of athletes attempt to qualify for the regionals by posting scores for a series of predetermined workouts over a five week period.  There are 17 regions worldwide, 10 of which are in the United States. Of all the entrants, only 20 men and 20 women qualify from each of the United States regions, so this is a great accomplishment for Zach. Performance in the regionals determines who gets to attend the Reebok CrossFit Games in Madison, WI.

Zach is 25 years old and currently enrolled at SCNM.  He was born in Connecticut and was a Division 1 wrestler in college.  We asked Zach about what drew him to naturopathic medicine and he told us, "While I was in college I knew I wanted to be a doctor, but it wasn’t until 2016 that I found naturopathic medicine and chose ND school because of it’s principles and approach to medicine."

Zach has been training CrossFit for 3 years and became a CrossFit coach in 2014 after finishing his bachelor's degree.  He trains for 60-90 minutes, 6 days a week using a combination of weightlifting, gymnastics and endurance movements to create high intensity workouts.  Zach told us that nutrition is one of the key aspects of training. "I use a combination of a modified paleo and ketogenic diet that I have found works well."  He also utilizes cryotherapy, acupuncture and manual adjustments to aid in recovery.

Zach is a great example of what can be accomplished through hard work and healthy living.  SCNM wishes him the best of luck at the regionals!
